This family portrait picture was taken by the beach.
We chose
colors that would accent the water and sweater colors being worn.
We cropped the upper corners with the mat design instead of in the
photo so we
would not lose any of the people yet got rid of any birds or ships in
the background. The top and bottom designs are
opposite to each other. Blue at the bottom brings out the water
and jeans that everyone is wearing creating balance.
Even though this appears to be triple matted it is actually only a
double mat (white and brown). The blue is added under the design
only. This creativity adds flare and fun but does not make this
financially unattainable. This is where a matting
expertise really makes a
difference and becomes
interesting.

This photo
was
taken while the child was on a memorable once in a life time vacation
in Australia. He is
holding an actual koala bear. The mother of the child requested a
design that was
'tribal'. She left it up to me to create the design. I
chose the dark gray mat to draw attention to the bear- which was in the
center of
the photo so now the child becomes more noticeable. The bamboo
frame brings it all together.
This design is only one sample of many photos that show off our
specialty
of designer mat cuts. |

This photograph
was purchased as an
ordinary double mat( black and white). The customer brought this
to us wanting
something special done because it has sentimental value to him- he flew
the plane type and was at the kitty hawk memorial. We improved the look
by
adding the top mat (blue) with the horizontal cuts forcing your eye to
the center. Adding just this little
mat design to the photo brought the memorial and plane out of the
normally plain double matted
piece.
The customer was overwhelmed by the change and how it looks now.
